REPORTS:

Treasurer:  Carol reported the conference income and expenditures as they stood. The conference earned $2,741 in income, and spent $3,058 for expenses. These totals will change as we are still processing paypal pre-registration amounts.

Resource Center: Carol announced that the Resource Center Committee has been very productive and that activity days for the month of August looked really great. She announced Patriotic Day on July 2nd.

NNHSAC: Carol reported on the new drafts of the laws covering homeschooling being considered by the NNHSAC. They are discussing getting rid of the consultant requirement and instead developing a standardized educational packet for new homeschoolers. They’d have to sign a statement saying they’d read it the first year, but not subsequent years. The NNHSAC is circulating a rough draft of the new laws for input. We will probably discuss it at the next meeting.

Conference Report: It was announced that Gina Hawley and Cheryl Cardoza will coordinate the Conference next year. They will be meeting to discuss plans for the conference and will hold a general meeting for potential volunteers shortly after that.

UNFINISHED BUSINESS:

Membership Directory Policy: Cheryl introduced a draft of the new membership directory policy which was reviewed and amended. Tracy moved to accept the new policy as amended. Lynn seconded and the motion passed unanimously.

Membership Form: We decided to divide the form used for membership into one for being included in the directory and one for renewing or starting a membership. We discussed ways to make the two forms work. Cheryl was given authority for creating the membership directory form and submitting it to the newsletter. Carol was given authority to revise the membership form to include plus membership options and submitting it to the newsletter. Tracey reminded us that the deadline for the newsletter was set at August 1st for the upcoming issue.

Tolerance Policy: This item was tabled.

NEW BUSINESS:

Resource Center Phone Line: Carol proposed installing a phone in the Resource Center that would use the current line. She said that adding a new box would cost money, but not much more than we already pay, especially once the line is no longer virtual. She proposed amending the new phone line message to reflect the addition to the line. Lynn moved that we install a new phone line in the Resource Center and that the Resource Center funds pay for installation and adding the new box, while monthly bills could come from the general fund. Joyce seconded the motion, which passed unanimously.

Board Retreat: Carol passed out the proposed agenda for the Board Retreat on July 28th. We discussed the time and schedule. Carol announced that she ordered The Art of Thinking for each Board Member for the retreat. We discussed the purchase of a parliamentary procedure video. Gina moved that we go ahead and purchase the video instead of trying to borrow it. Lynn seconded. There was some discussion about trying to find it in DVD format. The motion passed unanimously.

Homeschool I.D. Cards: Carol reported that an organization is offering to sell I.D. cards to homeschoolers for our Safety Day in September. It was pointed out that NHN is opposing the cards because it would bear the Clark County District logo, not the organization’s. There was some discussion about the credibility of the offer since terms kept changing. A suggestion was made to look into whether Life Touch does cards. Gina moved that we table this issue and find someone to research other options. Carol offered to inform the organization offering the cards that the board is not supporting it at this time. Gina offered to post to the e-loop on this issue.

Thank You Cards:: Gina suggested we think about Thank You cards made especially for NNHS for activities, field trips, vendors, donors, speakers.... Carol offered to draft a card. Gina moved that we make cards with the NNHS logo on it. Lynn seconded, and the motion carried unanimously.
