enclosed attachment. Carol makes a motion to get rid of the field trip line on
the phone service and Bethany seconded all approved. Jim P. will research how to lower the cost of our phone line.
c. Care Committee Bethany Callahan No
report and Bethany steps down from Care Committee.
d. Activities Committee Elizabeth Dahl
Elizabeth Dahl stepped down from Director of NNHS effective 6/15/05. She is continuing the Activities Committee
but has no report.
Old Business
5. Member access to electronic services Website
revisions not completed. Heather makes
a motion to allow Jim P. to spend up to $300 on the website revisions, Carol
seconded discussion followed and all approved.
6. Banquet/workshop The board cancelled
this years conference due to late planning and the resignation of the
conference chair. The board decided to
have a smaller, easier-to-plan event, such as a banquet with keynote
speaker. Has there been any action on
this item? No banquet
New Business
7. 2005 Elections To avoid having an entirely
new board every year, four current board members have agreed to step down or
run for re-election in the 2005 elections:
Carol Williams, Treasurer; Elizabeth Dahl; Heather Mayorga; and Bethany
Callahan. Shannon Simpkins volunteered
for the Treasurer position, and Patti volunteered to rerun for the Secretary
position (we might have a database coordinator). Jim P. has developed an election procedure/timetable for board
approval. According to the procedure,
ballots will not be issued if no offices are contested. However, the By-Laws require an
election. It is recommended that a
vote be held at the meeting for the open offices. Shannon Simpkins was nominated and elected for NNHS Treasurer all
approved no opposed. Patti Poston was
nominated and elected for NNHS Secretary all approved no opposed.
8. End of year party The end-of-year party is
being planned by Patti and Elizabeth from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Wednesday, June
22nd, at Bowers Mansion. The
date was determined by when the swimming pool opens up. The school district is running late this
year due to snow days and the pool is not opening up until school is out. NNHS members will be admitted free, non-NNHS
members will have to pay a fee. NNHS
will provide hot dogs and hamburgers; attendees will provide side dishes,
salads, and desserts. Approval of a
maximum of $250 is requested to cover the food and pavilion
rental. Heather makes a motion to approved up to $500 and Carol seconded
discussion followed and all approve.4000
9. 2006 Conference Jody Jarvis is
interested in organizing the 2006 conference, centered around the Jeffersonian
philosophy. Home Educators of Faith are planning a convention
for May 2006.
Homeschooling Parent Homeschooling
Parent offers a subscription to support groups in exchange for shipping. It works out to $25 per year for 25 copies,
six times per year. Carol reports that we are currently receiving it
free.1.We would be responsible
for distribution from there. Jim P.
proposes that we buy a year subscription to see if the magazine is worth it
($1/year per copy??), and if members are interested.

11. Sparks Farmers Market Booth Traci
Froese suggested that NNHS have a booth at the Farmers Market to disseminate
information on homeschooling and NNHS. Continuing Item
12. Monthly
meeting ideas An idea for
supplemental programs for our monthly meetings has been proposed. Either before or after the board meetings,
probably every other month to start, hopefully working up to every month. Any ideas
for programs? Jim P. appoints Carol Williams as Program Chair to
create a committee to hold special monthly programs.
13. $600 donation to NNHS Albert Draine of
Elko donated $600 to NNHS via United Way.
14. Curriculum Fair Night Homeschoolers
demonstrate and answer questions about various brands of homeschool
curriculum. June 30, 2005 5 p.m. to 8
p.m., South Valleys Library, Patti is asking for a maximum of $30 for
refreshments. Heather makes a motion to give Patti $30 for the
Curriculum fair, David seconded discussion followed and all approved.Contact Patti Poston.
