URBAN ROOTS FARM SCHOOL FOR HOMESCHOOL

Farm School is the homeschoolers' answer for hands-on, garden based education.  Whether your little one is accustomed to a gaggle of kids or prefers to hoof it alone, Farm School provides a rich environment for making feathered (and otherwise) friends....all while learning something new.  Over the course of 5 weeks, Farm School participants will follow their meals from farm to fork, investigate weather, and experiment with science inquiry while addressing Nevada K-12 Standards

Who: Students 5-11 years old or

Teen Farm School for 12-15 year olds

When: Tuesdays 9am-11am

Tuition: $50 per 5 week Session. Our Community Supported Education Scholarships are available on a case-by-case basis.

Session 1: Harvest Haulers

October 11 - November 8, 2016

Students will soak in the last of the summer harvest, discover the nutritional benefits of our fall crops, and conduct experiments with different growing mediums.

October 11 - November 8, 2016

Teen students will help harvest the last of the summer crops, learn how to integrate good agricultural practices on the farm and in the kitchen, and experiment with our dehydrator and solar oven.

Session 2: Junior Master Gardeners

November 15 - December 13, 2016

Students will learn all about soil science, plant life cycles, and how to prepare our farm for the winter.

Teen Session 2: Soil Stewards

November 15 - December 13, 2016

Teen students will investigate the composition and pH health of the soil in each of our garden beds and then work to improve it for the next growing season.

Session 3: Garden Scribes

January 10 - February 7, 2016

Students will explore literature in the garden and craft a story to depict life on a farm through the change of seasons.

Teen Session 3: Wendell in the Winter

January 10 - February 7, 2016

Teen students will dive into the writings of Wendell Berry and use his teachings to beautify the farm and learn about the chemical composition of compost.
